Today was the Commissionning of HMS Daring at Portsmouth exactly 250 years to the day since HMS Victory was commissioned!
The ship and its company were blessed as part of the commissioning and her Patron the Countess of Wessex was there too - I was quite impressed as she spoke well and stayed for several hours and wasn't surround by an entourage of ladies in waiting or detectives.

This was the first commissioning of a ship I have ever attended! It was interesting and they kept the ceremony reasonably short - less than an hour.
We then all had champagne and nibbles - and everyone was starving!
However the cake was lovely and helped to fill me up a bit as I had been up since before 6:00am to be in Portsmouth by 9:30am.
It is a very nice ship and far more comfortable than the previous 3 my daughter has served on!

i enjoyed hearing all about it on the local radio & in the papers hun...i'm glad the sun shined for everyone concerned!

Yes I saw it on the Regional News when I visited the Mess - everyone who was in there at the time cheered loudly
Brilliant that it didn't rain - although at one point the sky was black and some heavy drops fell but thankfully they came to nothing.
