Is it only Tuesday?
Not a lot to tell about really. Work is shaping up to be manic for the 3rd week running and I am slowly starting to feel less and less able to cope with it. I was actually a bit despondent this morning but cheered up somewhat a bit later on ![]()
Got to the gym tonight as there is no Spanish this week being half-term here. So that is 2 nights in a row exercise so I will have a rest tomorrow.
Yesterday I had to contact all the utilities with the final meter readings of the house. No problem - except for dear old British Gas. I called them 10 times and after much "press 2 "press the * key" etc I would get a voice telling me was finally in the queue for ahuman being (of sorts) and that I should have to wait for no more than 45 minutes - 45 MINUTES
You are having a larf ![]()
On the 4th attempt today I only had to wait 14 minutes and 50 seconds to speak to someone - so that is finally all done. Mortgage direct debit etc all stopped. I am getting so I hate paperwork even when it is for my own benefit - I have had so much of it this year.
It is noticeably colder tonight but there is a moon and the streets have been thronged with wizards, witches and people with pumpkin heads! Plenty of fireworks going off all over the place too - been like this for about 3 weeks now - where do they get the money? We used to have stingy biscuit tin with a few fireworks in it and maybe 3 or 4 rockets and that was November 5th done and dusted.
I am tired - is it really only Tuesday?
Tony Blair spurs me on!
That bloody man and his loony ideas - just another excuse to raise more taxes. Will it never end. I was so infuriated by today's outpouring of environmental bollox that I decided not to put my computer on for long and to just get on swotting my Spanish - I may need it sooner than I'd thought. How much longer can I afford to live in this country? The elderly already choose between eat and heat. Soon even a trip to the supermarket will be taxed. What is the point of all these so called environmentnal taxes in the UK when you have China, Mexico City etc. all spewing out crap 24/7. Why is putting VAT on UK flights going to change global warming? Get real this is just another way of filling Labour's coffers it seems to me. I really am going to have a rethink about where I live - maybe I will go back to Ireland for my last 20 working years - a lot less taxes there.
Sorry for the rant - but honestly will it ever end?
Hallowe'en Humour
cabbie picks up a Nun. She gets into the Cab and the driver won't stop staring at her. She asks him why he is staring and he replies, "Sister, I have a question to ask you, but I don't want to offend you".
She answers, "My son, you cannot offend me. When you're as old as I and have been a Nun as long as I have, you get a chance to see and hear just about everything. I'm sure there's nothing you could say or ask that I would find offensive".
"Well, I've always had a fantasy to have a Nun kiss me"
She responds, "well, lets see what we can do about that: #1, you have to be single and #2 you must be catholic"
The cab driver is very excited and says "Yes, I'm single and Catholic"
the Nun says "OK, Pull into the next alley"
The Nun fulfils his fantasy with a kiss that would even make a hooker blush but when they get back on the road, the cab driver starts crying.
My dear child, says the Nun, "why are you crying"
Forgive me Sister, but I've sinned. I lied. I must confess, I'm married and I'm Jewish"
The Nun says, "that's OK, my name is Craig and I'm going to a Halloween party".
Saturday
Got up with dull headache - not alcohol related before you all start! I think it is just as a result of the stress lifting from me.
Anyway ignored headache and set to stripping bed and putting my favourite duvet (blues and greens) on. Mad really because it is raining so will have to put up with house looking like a chinese laundry
Haven't slept well now for a few weeks and have decided that tonight as we get an extra hour in bed I will take some medication to ensure a straight 8 or 9 hours - I really need it. Work has been very stressful for last fortnight and I have been sooo busy
Had breakfast whilst listening to the radio for an hour just lolling about. Then off upstairs to clean round quickly. Abandoned my Pj's and got into my gym gear then downstairs to transfer all my digitally recorded plays and stories from this weeks Radio 4 output into MP3 files and onto MP3 player.
On the way to the gym I did the shopping and then called at cashpoint for some folding stuff ![]()
Did a good session that burned off 512 calories ![]()
Home had just had toast for lunch and put gym kit in wash. Shower and hairwash and then catch up on blogs.
I am off out tonight to meet up with some friends from Holland and others who live not so far away. My (Holland)friends don't know I will be there they think I am away on holiday so it will be a big surprise and I am looking forward to it. I have decided to drive and just have 2 drinks throughout the evening - I don't really fancy the 3am scenario of wandering about half-cut looking for a taxi with several thousand totally wrecked students having the same idea
especially on my own.
We are starting in an Italian restaurant at 7:30pm but I shall be late because I intend to watch my favourite rugby team on telly and they don't kick off until 5:30pm
So I will need to get dressed in best going out gear during the half-time and apply make-up during the second half
I guess I will be 15 or 20 minutes late but never mind eh at least everyone else will be there by then and my friend will be even more surprised to see me.
Haven't got a clue really what to wear and the rain is showing no signs of letting up at all
I hope everyone else is having a reasonable Saturday?
Your Age - Disocvered - try this! LOL!
YOUR AGE BY EATING OUT
Don't tell me your age; you probably would tell a falsehood anyway-but your waiter may know!
YOUR AGE BY DINER & RESTAURANT MATH
This is pretty neat.
DON'T CHEAT BY SCROLLING DOWN FIRST!
It takes less than a minute .
Work this out as you read ...
Be sure you don't read the bottom until you've worked it out!
This is not one of those waste of time things, it's fun.
1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to go out to eat.
(more than once but less than 10)
2. Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold)
3. Add 5
4. Multiply it by 50
5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1756 .
If you haven't, add 1755.
6. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.
You should have a three digit number
The first digit of this was your original number
(I.e., how! Many times you want to go out to restaurants in a week.)
The next two numbers are
YOUR AGE! (Oh YES, it is!!!!!)
THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR (2006) IT WILL EVER WORK, SO SPREAD IT AROUND WHILE IT LASTS
My luck has changed - at last!
The waterboard don't want £2000 from me.
The madwoman hasn't written to me or been to my home.
And today finally my house is sold! I mean gone - I have seen the money is in my bank account
I have been too superstitious to mention it was due to complete today because it would be like tempting fate. But it has gone ![]()
As the last few days have been good for me I thought I would push my luck a tiny bit further and I have extravagantly bought 5 x £1.50 tickets on the £75m Euromillions lottery rollover thereby guaranteeing I get the Lucky stars number cos I chose all nine over the 5 tickets
D Fingers crossed. Bloggers' party of the century if I won that
The Price of Cheating. Flipping 'eck!
Price of cheating - Oct 24 2006
(Article from a local newspaper)
Cheating partners in the UK spend around £557m a year, according to a new survey. Around 250,000 people are indulging in an affair, with many couples spending up to £420 per illicit date, according to researchers. The survey, carried out by extramarital website IllicitEncounters.com, found that most couples spent up to £200 on a room in a four-star hotel, with dinner and drinks costing up to a further £100.
That is some dosh for a night in/out!
Wish I was staying in :(
Here I am feeling harrassed as I have just rushed my tea and not even thought about washing up
I have to be at Spanish evening class by 7pm
Still not impressed with the teacher. As a compromise I have decided I will go but leave at 8:00pm when he has a 30 minute break! The class finishes at 9pm, I am just not hanging about to see a video I can get off the telly
I have caught up on a few blogs but still have 30 more "friends posts" to read
See you all later
Wish I was staying in :(
Not for those afraid of heights! French window-cleaners
Window cleaners in the cradle at the Montparnasse Tower, Paris
Quote suggested by Molt "Bugger I left my bucket of water behind!"
Double click through anuy of my pictures to get the biggest viewe possible - awesome (Even I would hesitate to get in that cleaning cradle!)
I can see the sea from up here!
Dizzy Heights - just another day at the "office"
Blog fixed!
Well I am impressed at the speed at which my technical glitch was sorted out.
Well done Blog.co.uk! Thanks to someone called Florian
D
Shame he can't fix the weather it is bucketing down here and so dark I have the lights on!
Saw the forecast was for a rough day from about noon on, so got the car refeulled and went to the gym at 10:00am. Dedication eh? Yes and the thought that I had better counteract last nights Chinese meal
Came home then and tackled the ironing whilst listening to the Archers omnibus which I recorded whilst out. Not sure if many of you listen to it but Pollygarter will understand when I say I am pleased that Ruth and Sam have declared their love for each other! Storylines on the Archers are worked up slowly so there is a great deal of aniticipation, unlike the TV soaps which are so formulaic you feel you could have written the episode yourself.
This afternoon will see the TV going on for the 2nd time this week
Unheard of in my house! But I am going to watch my favourite rugby team Munster play in the Heineken Cup (against Leicester in the UK) I would say wish I was there but seeeing the rain outside the couch looks very inviting![]()
So the house is tidy, I am hairwashed and eyebrow plucked, all the ironing is done and all the shoes cleaned in readiness for the week. the most energetic thing left to do is paint my nails
Thank you Friends re: Blog not working
Thanks to those that have alerted me to the fact this Blog isn't working as it should!
Hopefully somebody from Blogworld will sort it out soon.
Typical as I have only just got my email back - these things really sent to try us eh?
Saturday pm
Set off to town and had the eyebrows waxed - now look more defined ![]()
Picked up a few bargains and little bits and bobs to tuck away for the child's Christmas stocking. Talking of Christmas my mother wants some Rab C Nesbitt videos/DVDs but ONLY if they have sub-titles!
On the way home it started finally to rain and within about 90 seconds I had to pull over to the side of the road such was the deluge that ensued. Within minutes water was running down the road past all the (now halted) traffic and must have been more than 4 inches deep!
As it eased off I headed for home. Gosh it was dark for 4:30pm.
Did my lotto online and had NO numbers again. There should be a prize for those who can consistently fail to get a single number - I would win it
Decided that as I have been at the gym for 13 weeks and I have lost 13lb that I was entitled to a treat tonight so I had a delicious Chinese
D
Got some email to do and might then watch a DVD - have access to literally dozens that I have never seen as my daughter is a film fanatic and she brought loads back with her from Dubai to add to her already not insubstantial collection. Also have about a dozen Spanish language films I haven't yet seen.
Time for a Shiraz methinks.....
Sunshine and Blue Sky
Thank goodness the weather forecasters got it wrong. It is a fabulous day here, warm, sunny and blue sky all the way ![]()
I have been a paragon of virtue so far today. I was up bright and early and had breakfast in a leisurely fashion listening to the radio awhile.
Then action stations! I got out my trusty painting paraphenalia, the dust sheets and a step ladder and set about giving the kitchen ceiling the brilliant white makeover is has needed for the last 6 months
D
Finished off by super-cleaning all the tiles and worktops and it is now back to "show-home" condition.
Feeling very smug now.
Been down the shops too and have to pop out again later to get the eyebrows waxed. Have a PR event on Thursday next week so have to look my best ![]()
Thought I would have a second cuppa and pop in here to see what is happening with you all.
It's all gone south! LOL! Old age is cruel
Vital Statistics
I got the measuring tape out after my gym session. Now it is quite simple :-
To have the body I want
1. Take 2 inches off my hips and transfer to my bust
2. Lose a further 2 inches off my waist.
Now losing these further inches will come with a bit more time, but the rest could only be done with plastic surgery (the flexible friend LOL!)
Apparently cost £1000s
Mmmmm Wonderbras much cheaper option
What a day of downs and ups
Got up on a dark morning, left the house just after 6:30am in lashing rain and howling gale. My mind was firmly fixed on the nice hot cup of tea I was going to make when I got to the office around 8:00am. Less than 10 miles from journeys end all the traffic slowed to a complete halt. The rain continued, the car rocked in the wind and slowly the daylight started to edge across the sky. 5 lanes of traffic into one lane = nightmare. There was a multiple pile-up I later heard someone died
I got to work at 9:32am. Felt under pressure all day to try and catch myself up. Emptied my pigeonhole which was stuffed full and worked through it all. Then they sorted today's post and another pile appeared
When I got home I tentatively tried my NTL email and guess what
It is WORKING AGAIN!!
D
Lost into the ether is the last 9 days mail
but never mind I have communications again now
Went to the gym and did a wicked workout, watched the rain teeming down the windows and was quite happy to be inside exercising.
Came home and ate a sensible tea - salad and salmon and wholemeal bread. Haven't washed up yet it can wait - I got Blogs to read
D
Pearl Wedding Anniversary
It would have been today. Life is strange eh? When you set out on the long road you have no idea where it is taking you.
I often wonder "Where next?"
NTL Update
No not really because I AM STILL WAITING : :
So no film - thanks NTL and not even the opportunity to go to the gym.
I expect they would like me to sit here all evening tomorrow too???
I feel another snotty letter coming on - this one will go to all their major shareholders as well as their chairman - I will drive everyone associated with them as mad as they are driving me
Time for Tea
Got no tea last night just took a hastily made chees sandwich to my Spanish class.
I should be at the cinema now (film starts 18:15) But no no I am waiting for fecking NTL to call back ![]()
So I am going to log off and find some food.
See you guys later
NTL - aaarghhhh!
Following my 49 minute conversation with NTL last week - after they deleted my email address
I then wrote them a 2 page letter detailing calls times etc and my grounds for complaint.
This afternoon I was called by them and told if I went home and rang 151 they could reinstate my email.
Went home, phoned - no Technical Services can't do it - very long phonecall
Now Customer Services have rung me to say "is your email back are you happy?" NO
"OK Madam - I will phone Technical Service and then call you back again."
I sit, I wait and wait - where will it all end?
Motivation - for the dieters and weightwatchers
I did write about this the other day but I think it was as a comment on someone else's blog.
Each time you lose weight find an item in your cupboard i.e. a tin or soup, or beans, or tomatoes etc that represents your weightloss this week. Put the item into a carrier bag. Each week add your "weighloss" to the bag. When you are feeling demotivated or fed-up, pick up the bag and take it for a walk - say half an hour.
My carrier bag has now been decanted into two carrier bags one containing 6lb and one containing 7lb. Beleive you me walking round carrying those is a sobering experience when I relaise that just 3 months ago I was carrying that weight around on my body - yuk! No wonder I was always feeling tired!
It truly motivates me - so if you are having a down day or a difficult diet day - try it and see
Weightloss
I did actually pluck uo courage to weigh today as i was not here on the weekend to do so. I was a little worried as I had a heck of a weekend eating, drinking and socialising with mny daughter and the family. Obviously all that time at the gym must have speeded up my meatabolism becuase I lost my usual 1lb - hurrah
D
Another few days/week should see me -1 stone. Deep joy
