Fantastically hot weekend eh? 33 degrees in sunny south Wales this afternoon :-)
Well got off to Hay-on-Wye yesterday driven by my daughter and accompanied by her boyfriend (2nd time I have met him, 1st time he has stayed over)
On leaving home the skies were ovrcast all temperatures were warm. 30 miles north and the skies had cleared to azure blue and cloudless and that set the tone for the rest of the day.
We got to Hay and went for breakfast and a pot of tea for me 'cos I was parched! Then we split up and "did" some book shops, meeting up at 2 o'clock to walk down alongside the river to a good spot for paddling! Many others had the same idea and there were lots of families splashing about and dozens of canoeists sailing by. All very idyllic and nicely cooling after the heat of the town.
I left the lovers to it and went off to the "cinema" which is now home to over 200,000 books some new but mostly secondhand and covering most any subject you could think of (and a few you couldn't!)
Later we met up again and sat under an umbrella outside Kilvert and had some coffee and watched the world go by. It was still blisteringly hot at 6pm.
We had a final walk through the town and stopped at the tiny Spar for some Lotto tickets. Then onto the Blue Boar for an evening meal, we sat out in the rear garden which was very nicely done up for a small space. The food was superb and very reasonable.
Then it was homeward bound up over the magnificent Brecon Beacons and down through the valleys back to the seaside town where I live.
It was still hot at 8:30pm when we got back and sitting out on the patio a few hours later we enjoyed a spectacular fire-work display which was either coming from Penarth or Cardiff Bay. All the wonderful colours and shapes and none of the accompanying noise!
A very nice day indeed!
