No Smoking DAY 5

by welshceltgirl @ 2006-05-31 - 22:23:53

Better day today, I did put a patch on first thing and I have kept very busy. Did some painting - exterior woodwork, so now I am feeling quite smug about it!
Tonight I have been gorging myself on chesp Lidl's licquorice allsorts and filling in the 9 forms required by my new employer. Yep 9 forms - unbelievable ain't it? Bureaucracy is getting worse.
Treating myself now to red wine and I am off to read other people's blogs.
June tomorrow - maybe the summer will finally start :-D

DAY 3 - no smoking

by welshceltgirl @ 2006-05-29 - 21:29:37

Ok no strange dreams last night - mind you I have not used the nicotine patches since DAY 1.

Strange thing today I was going to ask my neighbour (age 66 yrs) about her tips for staying off the fags as she gave up 3 years ago next month. Anyway it is dry day 2 in a row and I drag the lawnmower outside and my neighbour is in her back doorway eyeing her overlong lawn with equal disgust and dismay. I am just about to broach the question when I notice a thin but perceptible line of smoke coming from behind her and rising upwards - as she lives alone I must conclude she has the odd sly fag. Now this is not a good prognosis for me. Much later on (several hours later I mentioned I had quit smoking on Friday and asked when the cravings might start to subside? "Never" came the grim answer :-(
Well I suppose she has smoked for around 45 - 50 years and it must take longer for those like her.
But what about me - I have fancied a fag every 15 minutes today - it has been hell!
Changed the beds
Washed
Ironed
Mowed two lawns
Had a long shower
Watched film on telly
Chewed loads of gum
Ate heaps of salad
Ate some cake
Craved chocolate but was too lazy to go to the shop (thank God!)
I am definitely wearing a patch tomorrow.

Any tips or advice gratefully received!

New Job!

by welshceltgirl @ 2006-05-28 - 19:01:24

After weeks and weeks of trying to get to interviews (one company had me attend 3 interviews!!) I have finally got a new job! It is like a huge weight being lifted from me to know that I am escaping the bullying, intimidation and long hours culture that belongs to one this country's Plcs.

OK so how relieved?

Relieved enough that on Friday I smoked my last cigarette! It is now Sunday evening and I have not given in to any cravings and do not intend to either.

Weird though - I had the must spooky nightmares last night - must be all that nicotine withdrawal! In for a rough few nights no doubt but it will be worth it. Anyhow I got this week off work so no chance of bullyboy putting me back on the fags. To be honest if they piss me about when I go in for my last couple of weeks I will just go sick - so it will be their loss.

I am hoping to go to the Hay-on-Wye literary festival sometime during the week as there are loads of different aspevents being staged there. To see for yourself log onto www.hayfestival.com/hayfestival/programme.asp
